Mumbai Indians add Colin Munro to their squad as replacement for Josh Hazlewood

Colin Munro has done well for his domestic team Auckland

It has been confirmed that Mumbai Indians have brought in New Zealand’s Colin Munro for the rest of the Indian Premier League (IPL) season as a replacement for Josh Hazlewood. The Australian fast bowler had ruled himself out of the IPL to keep himself fresh for the for the West Indies tour and Ashes series later this season.

Munro is a hard-hitting batsman who is South African by birth but plays for New Zealand. He is also a handy bowler who can bowl seam up when required. He made an impact in the domestic circuit in the 2011-12 season when he scored a century and three fifties for Auckland and then went on to better his own previous record by notching up three centuries in six innings, including a whirlwind unbeaten 269 off 252 balls against Wellington.

Munro also holds the record for the most sixes hit in a first-class innings, in his personal best innings of 281 earlier this year.

The left-hander was rewarded with a call-up to the New Zealand squad and since then has played 7 ODIs and 14 T20Is. He made his Test debut against South Africa at Port Elizabeth in 2013.

Mumbai Indians desperately needed a few international reinforcements after losing players like Hazlrwood, Aaron Finch and Corey Anderson, and it won’t be surprising if, in the coming days, they look to bring in another overseas player to bolster their squad.
