New Zealand to impose strict measures to arrest corruption in domestic T20s

New Zealand players will be under tight scrutinity as the board intends to keep the game clean.

New Zealand Cricket (NZC) is looking to increase security and impose more strict measures to curb corruption in the game. However, the country will not be following Cricket Australia’s (CA) initiative that offers amnesty to players who report corruption-related approaches.

Speaking on the same Lindsay Crocker, Head of cricket operations said: "The players will be concealed behind a protected area, they won't be able to take their phones in and anybody going into that area will need to be accredited and again they will need to leave their phones."

Crocker added that the above specified measures is already in practice for international games for some time and might be extended to other domestic competitions.

"If corrupt practice is going to germinate in this country we think it is more likely to do so around televised matches," he was quoted as saying by Fairfax Media.

Why New Zealand can’t follow Australia’s corruption policy

Crocker informed that there are some shortcomings in the system that Australia has implemented. He also suggested that New Zealand can not afford such policies and the level of success of any such methods is yet to be found out.

"It's a good idea on the face of it but there are also some potential downsides. We are going to just watch and see how the Australian one unfolds because they have got a very short timeframe and we can watch and see what comes out of theirs.

"We don't have that capacity. It will be interesting to see what they come up with and whether they come up with meaningful things. Then we can consider again whether it's something appropriate to our circumstance but at this stage we are not going to follow suit straight away," Crocker said.

It has to be noted that a Crimes (Match-fixing) Amendment Bill is about to be passed by the New Zealand government in December that considers corruption in sports as crime.
