Deepak Hooda took a brilliant catch to dismiss Daryl Mitchell cheaply in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at MA Chidambaram Stadium on Tuesday (April 23). Mitchell departed for just 11 runs off 10 balls to leave CSK at 49/2 after 5.2 overs.

The dismissal came in the sixth over of CSK innings. Yash Thakur bowled back of a length delivery and Mitchell tried to pull it in front of square. Hooda dived to his left from mid-wicket to complete a sensational catch. That came after Thakur dropped Mitchell in the second over.

Since joining the Chennai-based franchise this season, Daryl Mitchell has failed to deliver. The right-hander has managed 146 runs in seven matches.

On the other hand, Thakur has bagged nine wickets in seven matches, including a five-wicket haul, so far. The tally could improve further by the end of the Super Kings' innings.

Ruturaj Gaikwad stands tall for CSK vs LSG in IPL 2024 match

Ruturaj Gaikwad looked brilliant with the bat after returning to his opening role as the Super Kings left out under-fire Rachin Ravindra from the playing XI. The hosts, though, lost Ajinkya Rahane and Daryl Mitchell early.

At the time of writing, CSK were 74/2 after nine overs, with Gaikwad and Ravindra Jadeja at the crease. Matt Henry and Thakur have so far bagged one wicket each for LSG in the game.

CSK will be looking to return ways after losing to LSG by eight wickets in their last match in Lucknow. They, however, are yet to lose at Chepauk in three games so far. On the other hand, LSG will be looking to continue their winning run.

Coincidentally, both Chennai and Lucknow have won four out of their first seven matches so far. They are placed fourth and fifth, respectively, based on the net run rate in the points table.
