Rohit Sharma insists that he is an opener in ODI cricket, despite Indian captain MS Dhoni recently claiming that Rohit would be pushed to the middle-order to accommodate Shikhar Dhawan and Ajinkya Rahane at the top.

Rohit Sharma wants to open

Rohit, who is returning from a finger injury that has kept him out of the game for a couple of game is confident that he can make the spot at the top of the order his own. The right-handed batsman also added that the injury he suffered was much worse than first anticipated.

Speaking on the injury, he said: "It's on the joints of the fingers. Unless the finger movement is 100 per cent, I am not able to grip the bat properly. Overall I'm hitting the ball well. When I had surgery, I was told it would take some time before I return. Hopefully, the two-month layoff has helped me rejuvenate myself."

Rohit is currently representing India in a warm-up match against the touring Sri Lankan side at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. The 27-year-old scored 142 off 111 balls, opening the innings, backing up the fact that he is at his best at the top of the innings.

"What's the issue with my opening? I am an opener and I will open for India,” Rohit had said before the match.

Technical issues need addressing

After a forgettable tour to England recently, the Mumbaikar has admitted that he knows that he needs to improve some aspects of his game. He says that he doesn’t indulge in the past and has already forgotten about what happened in England.

"It's gone and I'm not thinking about it. There is the Australia assignment coming up. Tours like these will happen in your career. You shouldn't think too much about them. Your cricket shouldn't stop after failures on two tours. You should learn from your mistakes and keep going forward.

"Obviously some technical issues have to be addressed. I can't specify a single aspect. Mentally you need to adjust to a few things and I will try to do that. I've been to Australia in the past, so I know what to expect," the Mumbai Indians captain added.
