One of India’s top batsmen in limited-overs cricket, Rohit Sharma, has reportedly purchased a villa in Khandala, a popular hill station in Maharashtra, for a whopping Rs. 5 crore. The villa is part of a residential project named ‘Discovery’, which is being carried out by Bollywood actor Sunil Shetty’s real estate company, S2 Realty. The cricketer is said to have completed the purchase some days back and construction is currently under progress.

It is supposedly a 5 BHK villa with a total area of 7,500 square feet and will include in it a lawn and a swimming pool. Even though the two parties involved in the deal, Shetty and Sharma, have not come out in public about it, sources close to them have provided confirmation that it has, indeed, taken place.

The ‘Discovery’ project, of which the villa is a part, is spread across 7 acres of land and consists of more than 21 bungalows, each having its own private terrace. The company that is overseeing the project is jointly owned by Sunil Shetty, his wife and quite a few others.

According to Mid-day, a source close to the actor said that the project has attracted the interest of many among the cream of Mumbai’s society. He said, “The project draws a lot of the city’s elite, who want to stay in the gated community. Many of them are coming to buy villas here.”

A realtor has also disclosed that the project is not open for everyone to purchase and the builders are quite choosy about whom to sell it to. “The moment someone shows interest, a thorough background check is carried, only post which the villas are sold,” he revealed.

It has been claimed by another source that the realtors had demanded a higher price from Rohit Sharma but it was brought down. He said, “It is said that the initial demand for the villa was somewhere close to Rs 8 crore, which was brought down to Rs 5 crore post negotiations.”

This is certainly not the first time Sharma has spent a fortune on purchasing a piece of real estate. Just last year, the popular cricketer had bought a flat worth Rs. 30 crore on the 29th floor of Ahuja Towers in the Prabhadevi locality of South Mumbai.
