Recollecting writing letters to his wife Anjali during his playing days, former Indian batsman Sachin Tendulkar described her handwriting as “beautiful”, which anyone would “watch and admire”.

The legend also admitted that writing to his wife required some effort.

During a handwriting promotional event, Tendulkar said, “Hitting a cricket ball came naturally to me. But, while writing letter to Anjali, I have to doubly check what I was writing.

“In those days when there was no mobiles and the only mode of communication was through landlines or writing letter, I started writing letters. I started with my parents and later wrote letter to Anjali,” he added.

He recalled how his parents would sit next to him to teach him how to hold a pen and write.

The handwriting of doctors’ is usually difficult to decipher, but the 40-year-old’s wife, being a doctor by profession, appears to be an exception.

Talking about the writing of his cricket colleagues, Tendulkar said, “I think Anil(Kumble) writes quite clearly. Subroto Banerjee is quite skillful.”

Tendulkar, who is also a Rajya Sabha MP and a Bharat Ratna awardee, refused to answer questions about his future role in cricket and politics, if any.
