Controversy surrounding toss in World Cup final between India and Sri Lanka

This video features the clip from the 2011 ICC World Cup final between India and Sri Lanka where match referee Jeff Crowe had to spin the coin twice after he had trouble hearing Sri Lankan captain Kumar Sangakkara’s call in the first toss at the Wankhede Stadium.

Sangakkara had called for heads on both attempts, however, it was inaudible the first time due to loud noise in the stadium. Dhoni had thought he had won the toss, but since Crowe couldn’t hear Sangakkara’s call, the match referee asked for a re-toss.

Sangakkara won the toss the second time, and elected to bat first. “It was confusing,” he admitted later. “No-one heard a call. Mahi [Dhoni] thought I had called wrong.”
