In 1999, West Indies and Australia were tied 2-2 going into the fifth match of a 7-match ODI series.
At Georgetown, the home side batted first and scored 173 runs from their allotted 30 overs in a match reduced because of heavy rain. In reply, the Australians got off to a disastrous start and were struggling at 119/7 with just 7 overs left when Steve Waugh and Shane Warne found themselves in the middle
Warne gave able support to Waugh, as the Australian captain was going at over a run a ball and got the visitors in a situation where they needed just 6 to win from the last over.
With Phil Simmons injured, it was left to part time bowler Keith Arthurton to bowl the last over.
Waugh could score only two runs from the first 5 balls which meant Australia needed a boundary off the last delivery to win the match. Waugh pulled a short ball from Arthurton to the mid-wicket boundary which was fielded by Stuart Williams. The Australian pair could only run two before the West Indian crowd came running onto the pitch.
There was a lot of confusion with Waugh running a third run and Arthurton not able to pull the stumps out due to the crowd on the pitch.
After the match, the referee Raman Subba Row met the umpires and captains and gave Waugh the third run. Hence, the match was declared as a tie.
