Ever since leaving Ferrari, Felipe Massa has been charging forward, and in an animated talk with the media, Massa talked about his infamous first lap incident from Australia, while also revealing that the team is working on a big package for China.

The past two weeks seem to have cooled down the situation between him and Kobayashi with regard to that first lap incident, as Massa said yesterday.

“For sure, I heard what’s happened to him. If you have a problem with the car, there’s not big thing that you can do but I accept what’s happened, although it doesn’t change a thing for me, as I lost the race. He also wrote to me, so I’m fine, as we don’t get anything thinking about the last race.”

Massa praised the performance of his team-mate by stating that Vallteri Bottas showed some great potential in the race, and also expressed hope about seeing Williams be competitive again in the upcoming races.

“Qualifying and race was in different conditions, and we didn’t start in the right position. I think, in the normal simple stat, we’re in the Top 5. So, we did show a good performance in the race, and if I didn’t have the problem in the first corner, it was possible to see both cars in the podium, but it was even more possible to see Valtteri in the podium with the race he was doing, and after making contact with wall, he showed great potential. These are different conditions, but I would love to see us being competitive again.”

When quizzed about the performance deficit that Williams showed in Melbourne as compared to the pre-season testing, Massa admitted that the team lacked rear downforce and that they’re working back at the factory to improve on that area.

“We’re missing a bit of rear downforce and we’re working on it to improve, pieces were not ready for this race, so we’re here with the same car more or less as compared to Australia. These are different tracks, so we need to wait and see how the car behaves here, and we’re working 100% in the factory to improve on the areas, and when we fix these issues, we can show that the car is better in balance, and it will be positive for us as well.

“You’re always concerned that some of the teams will improve their car, but we have a good car anyway, and definitely from now to Barcelona, we’ll see improvements from all the teams including us. We’re working on a big package for China, and we’ll see what happens race by race, and I hope we can be competitive and fighting like we did at Australia.”
