Ferrari CEO Benedetto Vigna has claimed that Lewis Hamilton will bring a desire for continuous progress to the team. The British driver is moving to the Italian squad at the end of the season, and by the looks of it, he has made the right call. The Italian team is surging, while Mercedes, the team he is currently a part of, is struggling.

Hamilton has been part of Mercedes since 2013 and has won six world titles with the team. He lost the title battle in 2016 and 2021 as well but the partnership has more or less been successful. The German team found trouble as soon as the regulations changed in 2022. The driver has struggled to win even a single race in the meantime and that has played a role in his decision to switch teams.

Ferrari, a team that seems to be on the ascendance, is more than happy to have Lewis Hamilton on board. While talking to CNBC, the group CEO Benedetto Vigna, said that Lewis brought a desire for continuous progress, which was fundamental to the team. He said:

“Lewis will bring us what is in our DNA, what our founder [Enzo Ferrari] has said many times, a desire for continuous progress which is fundamental for a company, a team, to continue to be successful in the future.”

Vigna added:

“For Ferrari, it is fundamental to have the soul of a driver. When everything is going well in a company, we forget that things can change. Having people like Lewis in the house will help remind us that things can change and you must always be vigilant if you go too fast in a corner, you risk spinning, which is why you must keep all four wheels firmly on the ground.”

Lewis Hamilton has not had the best start to the season

The 2024 F1 season has not been the best for Lewis Hamilton in terms of performance. Mercedes is struggling for pace and at the same time, Hamilton has not found the sweet spot either. As a result, the driver continues to struggle, while teammate George Russell has been able to extract a lot more from the car.

In the first five races of the season, Hamilton has only once gotten the better of his teammate in qualifying and has not even once been able to get the jump over George in a race.

After five races, the championship standings have George Russell in seventh with 39 points to his name, while Lewis Hamilton languishes in ninth spot with 33 points. The driver will be hoping to return to form soon, especially since an important stint at Ferrari looms large.
