A new twist in the Lucas Moura saga

Manchester United’s complicated pursuit for Brazilian starlet Lucas Moura has taken a positive turn, after the 19-year-old’s parents told Sao Paulo officials that the player wants to join the Red Devils.

Despite a recent setback suggesting that the Brazilian was on the verge on signing a new contract at Sao Paulo, the latest development suggests that Lucas only has eyes for a move to Manchester United, amid rumours that the affluent FC Anzhi have shown slight interest. Inter Milan have also shown regenerated interest following significant investment in the club from Chinese investors.

However, an update from Brazilian ESPN suggests that the 19-year-old is only interested in leaving Sao Paulo for Manchester United. The report states that Lucas’ parents have held discussions with Sao Paulo president, Juvenal Juvencio, who told them of the developing interest from the wealthy Russian side who are prepared to offer the player the superior financial package, and of Inter’s renewed attention. However, the player’s parents told Juvencio that Lucas is only interested in a move to Old Trafford.

Earlier in the week, the Nerazzurri revealed that a group of Chinese investors had become the club’s second largest shareholder, taking a 15 percent stake in the Italian club. In addition to promises of new stadium, it is understood the Chinese investors will aid the club’s efforts to sign Lucas Moura, who Inter have maintained an interest with along with United this summer.

Earlier in the week, Lucas said that he is to decide his future after the Olympics. “At the moment I’m a Sao Paulo player and I’m focused on the Olympics.

“I don’t want to worry about this. If I am meant to leave now, it will happen,” he continued. “Otherwise, I’ll remain calm because I’m still very young.

“After the Olympics are over, I’ll decide. If I stay at Sao Paulo, I’ll be happy because it’s the club where I started my career.”
