Sportswear giant Adidas said Thursday it would stop using Luis Suarez, one of its key promotional stars, for World Cup adverts after his four-month ban from football activities for biting Italian Giorgio Chiellini.

"Adidas fully backs FIFA's decision," a spokeswoman of the German-based sporting merchandise company spoke to AFP, and was quoted on Firstpost. "We do not accept the recent behaviour of Luis Suarez and shall remind him of the high standards we expect of our players.”

"We have no plan to use Suarez for any other marketing activities during the 2014 FIFA World Cup," she added.

Suarez was scheduled to be featured in one of the commercials Adidas was going to produce, however, with the four-month ban imposed on the striker.

888poker, an online betting company and one of Suarez’s sponsor, had earlier announced that they will be cutting all ties with the Liverpool player following his action stating, "888poker signed Luis Suarez following a fantastic season for which his achievements were widely recognised. Regrettably, following his actions during Uruguay’s World Cup match against Italy on Tuesday, 888poker has decided to terminate its relationship with Luis Suarez with immediate effect."
