Like many of you, I was shocked to hear and then see that Andre Schurrle was NOT involved in the Chelsea squad for the FA Cup defeat at home to Bradford; especially after the manager had made a point of stating that he would be playing.
Of course this led to instant speculation on social media and the story has run in the pages of numerous articles over the last few days.
According to this article in the Guardian, it's believed that the German winger now wants the move away after being convinced that he could find regular first team football at Wolfsburg back in the Bundesliga. The German club had even sent a delegation to London over the past weekend to speak with Chelsea to try and sort out the signing of the 24 year old.
The same report states that Chelsea would be looking to make a profit on their original £18m investment with a figure quoted at around £23.5m being spoken of as the official asking price.
The problem here for me is that it seems that the player does want to go now and once that happens, everything changes. If there isn't any comment or reported feeling from the player, you have something to work with. However, it seems that a deal will be agreed within the next few days whether it's intially a loan move or permanent transfer.
Chelsea have said that Schurrle picked up a knock in training which is why he didn't feature against Bradford and he is also expected to miss tonight against Liverpool but none of us buy it at all do we!
Should Chelsea not be looking to keep Andre Schurrle?
Schurrle has proven to be so effective and has scored plenty of goals considering the amount he has featured. Give him a start on a regular basis and he would contribute more in my eyes but it's the battle he faces at the moment being up against Eden Hazard and Willian.
Schurrle doesn't graft or have anything like the work rate of the other two and that's why he has struggled to nail down his position in the side week in, week out. It's what the manager demands and if you don't comply or accept what you have to do without the ball, there will only ever be one winner.
