Bayern Munich vs FC Porto - Player Ratings

Bayern vs Porto
The Bayern Munich team following their win over Porto.

After trailing from a 3-1 first leg deficit, Bayern Munich produced an inspiring performance to destroy Porto 6-1 on the night to progress through to the semifinals 7-4 on aggregate. In the space of 26 minutes Bayern scored five first half goals. Thiago, Boateng and Muller scored one each, while Lewandowski managed a brace. Porto were more positive in the second half and grabbed a late consolation through Jackson Martinez. However, any hope of comeback was destroyed by a late free kick from Xabi Alonso.

So let us look at how the player performed on the night:

Bayern Munich

Manuel Neuer - 6/10

The World Cup winning goalkeeper hardly had anything to do on the night apart from picking the ball from the net once. He however did the job whenever called upon to clear the crosses or collect them.

Rafinha - 6/10

With Bayern attacking so vigorously, he hardly had any defending to do and he concentrated mainly on attack. He was substituted in the 72nd minute to give some playing time to Sebastian Rode.

Jerome Boateng - 7/10

A much better performance as compared to his first leg performance. He even got his name on the scoresheet for good measure.

Holger Badstuber - 7/10

He came into the team in place of Dante and did a lot better than his predecessor. In fact apart from his defensive duties he went forward regularly to help his team in set piece situations. But he was lucky not to see a red for a rash challenge in the first half.

Juan Bernat - 7/10

He went forward regularly and offered good support by regularly putting the ball into the box. It was his cross that provided Bayern with the crucial first goal.

Philip Lahm - 7/10

With more space to play, Lahm did well to dictate the play from the back. He also played a crucial role with his teams third goal.

Xabi Alonso - 8/10

Alonso was at his best on the night with his great passing range. He played a key role in keeping the momentum with Bayern Munich in that ruthless first half performance. He also scored a sensational goal in the end from a freekick.

Thiago Alcantara - 7.5/10

He set the wheels in motion with the first goal of the game in the 14th minute, his second goal of the tie to give Bayern the initiative. He did not stop there and went on going until the end.

Mario Gotze - 7/10

The German international was at the heart of the many things Bayern did well on the night. His passing and movement was difficult for Porto to control.

Thomas Muller - 8/10

He grabbed a goal through a fortunate deflection. Nonetheless, it wasn't just the goal but his overall play on the night that was impressive. He set up the teams third and fifth goal as well.

Robert Lewandowski - 8.5/10 (Man of the Match)

Lewandowski was at his ruthless best on the night, scoring two goals. He was always a threat, as the Porto defenders struggled to contain him.

Substitutes

Sebastian Rode (72') - 5/10

He came on to see out the game and did well in the limited time.

Mitchell Weiser (86') - N/A

Hardly anytime to make an impact.

Dante (90') - N/A

Hardly anytime to make an impact.

FC Porto

Jackson Martinez
Jackson Martinez could only manage a consolation goal for Porto.

Fabiano - 5/10

He could not be blamed for many of the goals which his team conceded. Nonetheless, he could have done better with the fourth goal.

Diego Reyes - 3/10 (Flop of the match)

He replaced the suspended Danilo and was nowhere close his level as Benat and Gotze enjoyed a lot of space on his side. He was rightly replaced in the first half itself.

Maicon - 5/10

He struggled to hold the fort at the back. When his fellow teammates were falling apart, Maicon also collapsed along with them. However, he looked like the best one among the lot.

Bruno Martins Indi - 4/10

He was no different to his defensive partner and struggled to contain the Bayern attackers. It was from his deflection that Bayern got their fourth goal.

Ivan Marcano - 3/10

He came in place of the suspended Alex Sandro and struggled to have the same type of impact his predecessor had in the first leg. He was sent off in the second half for two bookable offenses.

Hector Miguel Herrera - 6/10

He struggled to help his defenders by sitting in front of them. He was unable to much help in defense or attack. Nonetheless, he managed an assist for Martinez's late strike.

Casemiro - 5/10

He initially looked composed in defense before the Bayern onslaught began. However, he grew more into the game in the second half.

Oliver Torres - 5/10

He tried his best on the night, but nothing worked for him. He too like his teammates struggled to make an impact on the night.

Ricardo Quaresma - 4/10 After his man of the match performance in the first leg, Quaresma was nowhere near that level. His passing wasn't good on the night and he hardly tracked back to help the defenders on his flank.

Jackson Martinez - 7/10

After being anonymous in the entire first half, Martinez grabbed a late consolation for the Portugal club. He looked lively after scoring.

Yacine Brahimi - 5/10

With his team unable to retain the ball, Brahimi was not able to do much with the limited opportunities he had. He did, however, do a decent job on the defensive side of things.Substitutes

Ricardo Pereira (33') - 5/10

After replacing Reyes, he did at least offer something in attack.

Ruben Neves (45') - 5/10

After coming on for Quaresma did much better than his counterpart to take on Bayern defenders, but did not make any notable contributions.

Evandro Goebel (67') - 5/10

He was not able to make any notable contributions to change the game’s outcome.
