Over the years, some truly great forwards have graced the Stamford Bridge turf, even before the big money acquisitions of the Abramovich era. If the rumour mill is to be believed, and United flop Radamel Falcao is on the verge of signing, despite the club versus country debate surrounding his performances, he may well have the chance to join the Chelsea elite. Greaves scored an incredible 132 goals for the blues in just 157 appearances

Not just one of Chelsea's greatest but one of the greatest players in English football. Greaves started his senior career at the club and scored an incredible 132 goals for the blues in just 157 appearances. The legendary player, both for club and country, also went on to have an even greater footballing career for north London rivals Tottenham Hotspur but he will always be remembered by a generation of fans as one of the best to ever sport the colours of Chelsea.PETER OSGOOD

Peter Osgood is considered by many fans as the King of Stamford Bridge

Peter Osgood is considered to be the King of Stamford Bridge by many of the Chelsea faithful for the ten years he featured as our striker. He played 380 times scoring 150 goals and was one of only nine players to score in every single round of the FA Cup. He remains to this day, the last person to do so. Ossie scored that famous diving header against Leeds at Old Trafford in the Cup Final replay which Chelsea went on to win 2-1. The season after, Ossie was part and parcel of the Chelsea side that beat Real Madrid 2-1 in a replay of the European Cup Winners Cup after the first game finished 1-1.

DIDIER DROGBA

Didier Drogba was voted as the greatest Chelsea player ever in a fans poll

In the history of football, you’ll rarely find anyone more intimidating and inspiring figures found up front than that of the formidable Didier Drogba. The Ivory Coast international spent 8 years at Stamford Bridge and managed to put away 157 goals in all competitions for the club.

He helped lead Chelsea to their memorable win over German side Bayern Munich in the 2012 Champions League final. He scored the equalising goal in the 88th minute and then put away the crucial final spot kick in the nail-biting penalty shoot-out that led to the blues lifting the trophy for the first time in the clubs history.

The Drog returned last season to help Mourinho’s men lift the Premier League title and he will be remembered as a legend.KERRY DIXON

Kerry Dixon is fondly remembered at the Stamford Bridge

The Luton-born striker played for a number of clubs in his 18- year senior career but he spent half of that time playing for Chelsea FC. In his astonishing spell at Stamford Bridge, Dixon bagged 193 goals and still holds the title as the third highest goal-scorer of all time.

Sadly, despite his talents, he was never able to be part of a team that won anything more than a couple of second division championship medals.EIDUR GUDJOHNSEN

Eidur Gudjohnsen was a fan favourite since he arrived from Bolton Wanderers

Icelandic forward Eidur Gudjohnsen arrived at the club back in 2000 from Bolton Wanderers and became a fan’s favourite almost from day one. Not only would he play up front and knock in an impressive rate of goals but he would often be found dropping back to support his teammates. He followed his Chelsea career by playing at Barcelona and Monaco but was never able to replicate the success he was able to enjoy with his former club Chelsea.BOBBY TAMBLING

Bobby Tambling scored 202 goals for the Blues between 1959-1970

Despite recently being overtaken in the goal scoring charts by Frank Lampard, Bobby Tambling, who scored 202 goals for the Blues between 1959-1970, remains one of the all-time greats. Tambling made his debut at 17, scoring in a 3-2 win against West Ham, and from there he never looked back. The Sussex-born forward’s finest moment came in the 1965 League Cup triumph when he scored the first goal in the 3-2 first-leg victory over Leicester City.
