Brendan Rodgers optmistic about Liverpool getting back on track after the loss

Brendan Rodgers remains positive in the wake of a 3-1 defeat to Manchester City

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers lamented his side's defeat at the Etihad but continued to look towards the positive aspects and said they still have a "long way to go".

Defending champions Manchester City ousted Liverpool 3-1 at home courtsey a brace from Stevan Jovetic and one from Sergio Aguero. An own goal from Pablo Zabaleta on the back of Rickie Lambert's close-range header came as a mere consolation, as the Reds were handed an early blow in this season's title race.

Despite dominating for much of the first-half, the Merseyside club fell behind to Jovetic's strike, to which Rodgers added, "I think up until the 40th minute, we were the better team but we switched off in the final period."

The Northern Irishman is, however, looking on the bright side and assured there will be a comeback. "This is difficult place to come but we will continue to work, we'll get better. It just wasn't our night," he said. "There is no psychological blow; there is a long way to go. It was a tough game but we will move on.", he asserted.

Liverpool next play Tottenham Hotspur on 31st August at White Hart Lane.
