Bayern Munich celebrate a goal against Werder Bremen

Berlin, Oct 19 German football League leaders Bayern Munich showed no mercy to Werder Bremen while Bayer Leverkusen squandered a 3-0 lead to share the spoils with struggling Stuttgart in the eighth round of Bundesliga.

Bayern crushed bottom side Bremen 6-0 thanks to braces by Philipp Lahm and Mario Goetze Saturday night, reports Xinhua.

Xabi Alonso and Thomas Mueller also got their names on the scoresheet against the hapless visitors from the north.

It is the sixth victory for the unbeaten German giants, who lead the Bundesliga standings with a four-point advantage while Bremen are in last position.

Leverkusen wasted the chance to jump into the top three as they gave away 3-0 first-half lead against a struggling but courageous Stuttgart.

Leverkusen started brightly as Heung Min Son completed a combination play to open the scoring from 12 metres out with a well-placed shot into the far post corner in the fifth minute.

The South Korean international doubled Leverkusen's lead with a powerful shot from 25 metres out.

The hosts poor defensive display continued and Karim Bellarabi made full use of it with a fine solo run that ended in a third goal for the visitors, four minutes before the break.

However, things changed dramatically in the second half as Timo Werner started Stuttgart's comeback with a 57th minute goal before Florian Klein reduced the arrears to 2-3 10 minutes later.

Leverkusen failed to secure three points as Stuttgart's Martin Harnik's header cancelled out Leverkusen's three-goal lead in the 76th minute.

Harnik had another two chances to score the winner but Leverkusen goalkeeper Bernd Leno was on guard to secure his side at least one point.

With the draw Leverkusen slipped to sixth place while Stuttgart climbed to 15th position.
