Chelsea thrash Aston Villa 12-2 in U-18 Premier League

Chelsea U-18 side score 12 goals to register a record win in the U-18 Premier League

Chelsea comeback from 2 goals down after a quarter of an hour to stage a spectacular comeback, winning 12-2 against Aston Villa. The U-18 Blues have now cemented their top spot in the South Group with 16 points of the first 7 games.

Villa boys opened the scoring with goals from strikers Harry McKirdy and Rushian Hepburn-Murphy in the first 25 minutes. However, Jeremie Boga pulled one back for the home side which started a comeback that ended up being a dismal scoreline for Aston Villa.

Tammy Abraham, substitute Miro Muheim and a second from Boga had already secured the points for the Blues in the first half before before Dominic Solanke added two goals in first-half stoppage to make it 6-2 for the Londoners.

Muheim completed his hat-trick with a sweet finish in the second half, while Boga scored a stunning free-kick to get his hat-trick.

Speaking to the official Chelsea website, coach Joe Edwards said:

‘We’ve broken a record with the win today and it’s great for all the boys to be involved in that.

‘We’ve been able to add two players in Jeremie and Dominic to a team that’s already been doing very well so we knew we were fielding a strong team and the expectation from ourselves rises as a result of that. We’re disappointed with the start and it’s something we have to keep looking at because it’s happened a few times lately, with us giving teams a head-start in games - but the most pleasing aspect today was our mentality.

‘When you go in at half-time with such a clear lead there’s always a chance the players will take their foot off the gas in the second half but we addressed that at the break and spoke about how the top-level players are so relentless and ruthless in those situations. You could see in the second half the boys responded to that and we managed to double our half-time score because of it.‘
