If Chelsea are to win this seasons Premier League title, they will officially become the most dominant team in Premier League history by spending the longest amount of time at the top of the table in one season.
Chelsea have spent the entire season either top or joint top of the table since the opening day of the season, a staggering 231 days so far. The current record of 262 days is held by Manchester United but if Chelsea can hold onto first place between now and the end of the season to win the Premier League for the fourth time, it would extend that record to 274 days which is phenomenal.
May 13 is the day which will mark Chelsea’s toppling of United’s record from 93/94, a day the London club will play their 36th match of the season against Liverpool.
People will have a very different opinion of what they describe as dominant. Manchester United fans will look to how many titles they have won since the Premier League started and Arsenal fans will beg to differ and ask us all to consider the invincible side that won the league unbeaten.
However, none of them dominated a single season like Chelsea have so far and can potentially carry on the dominance for the whole season.
