Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has signed a new contract which sees him extend it by another five years.

The goalkeeper had joined the London club in 2011 from Belgian club Genk but spent the last three seasons on loan at La Liga club Atletico Madrid.

He had a successful stint at Atletico, winning the La Liga title last season and reaching the UEFA Champions League final as well.

The 22-year-old was also a member of the Belgian squad that reached the quarter-finals of the World Cup in Brazil.

Happy to sign new deal: Courtois

Courtois said: “I’m very happy with this new deal, it’s really nice to have signed this new contract for five years.

“My future was already sorted but it’s nice to know I’m going to be here for another five years and now I can just concentrate on playing games.”

The young goalkeeper has already displaced Petr Cech from the starting lineup after starting all three Premier League games this season.
