Chelsea midfielder refuses to accept his time at the club is over

John Obi Mikel refuse to write-off his Chelsea career

Despite being heavily linked with a move away from Chelsea before the window closes, John Obi Mikel is refusing to accept that his Chelsea career being over and wants to fight for his place within the squad.

Just last week, it was being reported that Mikel was available for transfer for a fee of as little as £5m to move from Chelsea and it was something that really, really surprised me. For a Midfielder who has just featured in the World Cup in Brazil to be sold for as little as £5m with the experience he has, I couldn't believe it.Just recently, a source close to Mikel has spoken out in defence of the Nigerian midfielder and has said:

“Mikel is not leaving Chelsea, at least this summer. He told me he doesn’t want to move now as he will stay and fight for his place in the team."

I am not 100% certain of the future of Mikel at Chelsea now. Having seen Nemanja Matic return to the club and Oriol Romeu being given a new contract, it leaves questions over Mikel's position here.

In addition, Marco Van Ginkel has started this pre season really well and has literally been flying into tackles in midfield to give Jose Mourinho another solution in those midfield positions.

It will be interesting to see what happens with Mikel from next week as all the players who have featured in the latter stages of the World Cup return to Chelsea pre season training.

Does he still have a future at the club? One thing is certain, he will not give up fighting to stay here!
