Ronaldo Mourinho celebrate
Ronaldo and Mourinho had some mixed times at Real Madrid

Jose Mourinho is not one who’s short of confidence, despite Chelsea’s poor start to the 2015/16 campaign. But even he will feel better receiving some encouragement from his former player and arguably the best player in the world Cristiano Ronaldo. In an interview, Ronaldo gave Jose Mourinho his backing, as Mirror reported.

There were rumours, even when the current Chelsea boss was in charge of Real Madrid that there was a rift between the two and Guillem Balague in an excerpt of his upcoming biography of Cristiano Ronaldo seems to confirm an incident when the two almost came to blows in the dressing room.

Nonetheless, Ronaldo has backed his compatriot in a turbulent time, saying he has won a number of trophies with different clubs and insisting that he’s always maintained that Mourinho is among the top managers.

“I would put him at the top, I always say that. He’s a good coach, he did many good things and won many trophies for other clubs. My coach is now Benitez and I’m comfortable we are going to win many things together,” Ronaldo told BT Sport in an interview.

The Blues have begun their season in disastrous fashion as they currently sit 15th in the Premier League table with 6 defeats in the league alone from 11 games. This does not surprise Mourinho’s former player but as a fellow Portuguese national, he wants Mourinho to succeed, as per ESPN.

He said: “I'm not surprised because in football anything can happen. Of course, he's a manager that I was working with for two years and I know his potential. I know that not just him but Chelsea are in this tough situation.

"As a Portuguese man, I want to see the Portuguese at the top level all the time. So this is what I wish for him that he can go through this bad situation and make Chelsea fans happy because they deserve it.”

It’s a busy time for Ronaldo as he's not just at a crunch phase with Real Madrid but also has a book about him and a documentary releasing this month. There have been a number of stories giving us insight into Ronaldo’s life and career as the 30-year-old continues to bang in the goals for Real Madrid. He’s come under some criticism for his performances but has often insisted that he feeds off his haters. So it’s not just Jose Mourinho who has point to prove this season.
