EPL 2016-17: Paul Scholes happy with Manchester United's summer signings

Manchester United were the biggest movers this summer as they reinvigorated their side from top to bottom. And that seems to have impressed not only their fans but some of their former legends as well. Paul Scholes recently spoke out about how impressed he was with the new regime and their business in the transfer market this season.

Not only did they break the world record fee to bring back the mercurial Paul Pogba, but also took the gutsy move of replacing Louis van Gaal at the end of the season with Jose Mourinho, a man much loathed for his time with bitter Premier League rivals Chelsea. Whilst many criticised Mourinho and co. for splurging huge amounts in the market, Scholes feels it was exactly what was needed at the moment for the Red Devils.

Speaking to Sky Sports in a recent interview, the former Manchester United legend said, "The quality of the players he (Mourinho) has brought in, that's the biggest difference.

"The previous managers (David Moyes and Louis van Gaal) took a risk by playing some players that could have worked but probably didn't work as well as they should have done.

"But he [Mourinho] brought in ready made players. That was what was needed, ready made players for the Premier League. It wasn't the right time for Mourinho to take risks."

Scholes spent more than two decades at the club as a player after rising through the academy. During his spell at Old Trafford, he was an integral part of the team which went on to win an unprecedented 11 Premier League titles to got with 2 Champions League triumphs.

High expectations from Marcus Rashford

And he feels that under Mourinho, the club can again go back and become the dominant force it was under Sir Alex Ferguson. The former England international also feels that Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s arrival at the ‘Theatre of Dreams’ could be pivotal as he believes the move will have both a direct as well as an indirect effect on the club, especially on the youngsters like Marcus Rashford.

"Ibra [Ibrahimovic] is great for young players, especially for someone like Rashford.

"Marcus will have a massive role to play this season and to have someone to look up to like that and teach him how to play the game properly, it's great for his future”

Manchester United have got off to a great start to the season. After winning the Community Shield to begin, Jose Mourinho has seen his side claim all nine available points from the first three games of the Premier League season. However, their first big test of the season awaits next week as they host Manchester City in this season’s first Manchester derby.
