English Premier League side Everton have unveiled their new home kit for the upcoming 2014/15 season.
The Tofees have returned to their roots by going back to selecting Umbro as their shirt manufacturer. The British sportswear company have designed jerseys for the Merseyside club from 1974-83, 1986-2000 and then again from 2004-09. Everton have witnessed a fair share of success in an Umbro-designed shirt, most notably the League title in 1985 and 1987, and the 1995 FA Cup.
The new home kit is a rich shade of blue with slight navy blue collar. The new kit was launched along with a video of 11 Goodison Park heroes, from present and past. To make its fans feel about the rich history of the club, the video includes Everton heroes like Thomas Gardner, Graeme Sharp, Duncan Ferguson and the current stars Phil Jagielka and Ross Barkley.
The kit is the first one to feature the new club badge, voted for by fans. The 2013/14 season's changes in the badge had irked several club fans. The change in the crest design along with the removal of the latin motto 'Nil Satis Nisi Optimum' hadn't go down too well with Tofees supporters.
At the launch of the new home kit, manager Roberto Martinez said: "The fans, players and staff make up the fabric of this football club and I am proud to be considered a part of that. Umbro has created a unique technical kit which I'm sure both players and fans will be proud to wear." Speaking on the new kit celebrating the club's glorius history, Martinez added: "It has been inspired by our club's glorious past, however it’s quality and design are very much for the modern-day era and I remain confident it will help us to perform to our full potential on the pitch in the Premier League and in Europe."
After teasing Arsenal for the fourth place for a few weeks, Everton finished fifth in the Premier League last season with 72 points. Roberto Martinez's boys have thus secured a berth in the 2014/15 Europa League group stages.
