FA Cup Semifinal 17/18: Chelsea 2-0 Southampton - Player Ratings

Chelsea v Southampton - The Emirates FA Cup Semi Final
This has been a good week for the men in Blue

Goal scorers: Giroud (46'), Morata (82')

Chelsea set up a mouth-watering FA Cup final clash with rivals Manchester United on the very famous '19th May'.

Last week, the Blues came from behind to beat the Saints thanks to 2 goals from Giroud. This time they made sure they were in full control. The former Arsenal man continued his impressive run in the FA Cup as he scored his 15th goal in 26 appearances.

Morata, who missed a sitter earlier in the week would be very relieved with his header that he scored to secure Chelsea went to the finals.

Here are the player ratings from the game.

Southampton

Chelsea v Southampton - The Emirates FA Cup Semi Final
Saints now have a job to secure their place in the Premier League for next season

Alex McCarthy - 6/10

McCarthy could have done little to deny Chelsea score both the goals but he did make a brilliant one-hand save to deny Hazard from getting on the scoresheet.

Cédric Soares - 4/10

Not the best performance from Cedric today. He left too much space in the game and his positioning was also not up to the mark.

Wesley Hoedt - 4/10

You can blame Hoedt for the 2nd goal that Chelsea scored. Poor marking by Hoedt led to Morata comfortably converting the cross into the goal.

Maya Yoshida - 5.5/10

Had it not been for Yoshida, Chelsea would have gotten the lead in the 12th-minute courtesy Hazard. But as the game progressed, Yoshida did little to stop the Chelsea strikers from scoring.

Jan Bednarek - 6/10

Probably Saints' best defensive player on the pitch. In just his 5th appearance for the club, he had the most interceptions and clearances than any of this teammates.

Ryan Bertrand - 5/10

After having a good game last week, Bertrand couldn't continue the same performance this week. He was outrun almost everytime by Willian and was poor while defending.

Oriol Romeu - 5/10

Romeu just had too much on his plate today. He had to work a lot to stop Hazard and Willian, which, of course, he just couldn't do it as the duo got better of him on most occasions.

Pierre-Emile Højbjerg - 5/10

He was asked to link up the play from the back to the front but he failed to do that. Not entirely his fault as the Saints gave away the ball way too cheaply today.

Mario Lemina - 4/10

Lemina didn't get enough space in the midfield and hence couldn't get close to his counterparts. He also failed to apply pressure as his side chased the game.

Charlie Austin - 5/10

Austin tried hard to get his side back into the game but with no service from his midfield, he was all alone up front with no support. He came close to pulling one back when he was denied by the post in the last 10 minutes of the game.

Shane Long - 5/10

As always, Long worked hard but lacked quality throughout the game. He had the best chance to score when he was one-on-one against the keeper, but a bad first touch just released all the pressure.

Substitutes:

Dusan Tadić - 5.5/10

Coming on Redmond, Tadic was sent to add the creative link that was missing in the game. But once Morata scored the 2nd, he went missing.

Nathan Redmond - 6/10

Raymond provided the spark which was missing until he came on. He did all that he could but failed to get his side back into the game.

Manolo Gabbiadini - 5/10

Coming on with 12 minutes to go, Gabbiadini just saw the game out.

Chelsea

Chelsea v Southampton - The Emirates FA Cup Semi Final
It was a joy to watch Morata and Azpilicueta linkup once again.

Willy Caballero - 7/10

Starting ahead of Courtois, Caballero was a mere spectator in the 1st half of the game. He did make an excellent save to deny Raymond from getting on the scoresheet and thus ensured his side also kept a clean sheet in the process.

Cesar Azpilicueta - 8/10

With the Saints playing 2 strikers, Azpilicueta had a little more work to do, which he did without any problem, no surprises there. And after a long time did we see the partnership between him and Morata once again.

Gary Cahill - 7/10

Another solid game for the Chelsea captain. Continuing his impressive performance in the game against Burnley, Cahill dealt with the treat nicely and battled hard.

Antonio Rudiger - 6.5/10

Since being left out for 'tactical reasons', Rudiger has had a good run. Today, he used his pace to his advantage and held his performance. He was lucky when he was caught out of position as Long failed to score.

Victor Moses - 7/10

After his impressive performance against Burnley, Moses produced another decent performance at Wembley.

N'Golo Kante - 8/10

The heart of Chelsea, Kante once again had a great outing. Breaking up the play and getting the Blues going forward is what he did.

Cesc Fabregas - 7/10

A decent game from Fabregas. He looked good on the ball and was the starting point of Chelsea's 1st goal as his pass found Hazard and then Giroud who then scored.

Emerson Palmieri - 7/10

Alonso's ban came handy for Palmieri. 2 games, 2 solid performance from the wing-back. Decent in defense and always looking to go forward, Emerson will improve with more game time.

Willian - 7/10

The Brazilian was having a great game until Conte decided to take him off after an hour, though he didn't look injured. Willian smashed the bar and his pace gave problems to the Saints defender today.

Oliver Giroud - 8/10

Scoring twice from the bench last week, Giroud started the game today. Continuing his impressive run in the FA Cup games, he scored once again to give his side the lead. Some lovely linkup with Hazard and fighting for the ball in the air, Giroud was a threat today.

Eden Hazard - 9/10

The Man of the Match for today, Hazard was just brilliant on the pitch. Skills, pace, linkups, a bit of Rabona, the Belgium international was full of energy. He certainly was a threat every time he got forward with the ball and caused problems for the defenders.

Substitutes:

Tiemoue Bakayoko - 5/10

It looks like slowly Bakayoko is cementing his place back into the team. An 'ok' performance from the French midfielder.

Pedro - 6/10

Since coming on, Pedro provided good energy and looked positive.

Alvaro Morata - 7/10

That goal would have certainly boosted his confidence after missing a sitter in the midweek. His header was the final blow to Saints who thought they had some chance of getting back into the game.
