Federation Cup 2014: Alemao family proud of Churchill Brothers SC winning tournament for the first time

The I-League‘s only family run club in Churchill Brothers SC lifted their first-ever Federation Cup trophy on Saturday evening with a 3-1 victory over Goan rivals Sporting Clube de Goa at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Cochin.

Club patron and founder Churchill Alemao said, “I am proud of my boys, they showed immense character and self belief during the tournament!”

An ecstatic Ms Valanka Alemao, CEO of Churchill Brothers, said, “It’s historic victory for Churchill Brothers! For the first in the history of Fed Cup Churchill Brothers qualified for the finals beating Kolkata’s Mohun Bagan and won the prestigious Cup. This is a victory for Goan football, and all our fans supporters and well wishers.”

The Red Machines will arrive back in Goa on Sunday afternoon at 4pm at Dabolim airport. They will be taken in a motorcade to Margao where they will go through the main arteries of the city and then proceed via Colva Benaulim and finally wind up at the Varca club house where a big cake will be cut.

Ms Valanka Alemao dedicated the victory to the late mother of Technical Director Subash Bhowmick, the late Mrs Dipti Bhowmick. “It’s victory for Goa and Goan football. I salute the fans. Congratulations to all the players, coaches, technical director Bhowmick, head coach Mariano Dias, manager Denzie Ferrao, all support staff. It was a superb team work. The victory showed once again that Goa is the powerhouse of football in India!”
