Torres looks all set to extend his Chelsea career by one more season

Under fire Chelsea striker Fernando Torres wished his Spanish team mate Xavi on his international retirement. Torres and Xavi enjoyed a fruitful spell for La Roja where they won the two successive European tournaments in 2008 and 2012 and the World Cup in 2010 in South Africa, before crashing out of the group stages of the just concluded World Cup in Brazil. Torres took to twitter to wish Xavi by posting a picture of both of them celebrating in Spanish colours.

With Spain expected to make a few changes before their next international assignment, Torres may find himself out of reckoning if his woeful club form for Chelsea continues. There were reports that Jose Mourinho may sell El Nino in order to meet the foreign player quota, but the manager has rubbished the rumours and has confirmed that Torres will be staying put at the club for at least for one more season.

Torres earlier missed a sitter in Chelsea’s preseason friendly 2-1 win over NK Olimpija Ljubljana. With the arrival of Diego Costa and club legend Didier Drogba, it looks as if he will be below both of them in the pecking order.
