The 2014 World Cup will be the 20th edition of the tournament which has a long, illustrious history. And it has seen its share of triumphs and heart-breaks.

But nothing gives players and fans more elation and despair than a penalty shootout.

With nothing to separate teams after 120 minutes of football, it’s almost tragic that a few penalties decide the eventual winner.
