Juventus midfielder Andrea Pirlo (R) argues with Roma forward Francesco Totti during their Italian Serie A match on October 5, 2014 at the Juventus Stadium stadium in Turin.

Juventus beat AS Roma 3-2 in a highly controversial top of the table Serie A clash.

The game saw five goals, of which three were taken from the penalty spot.

Juventus took the lead through a Carlos Tevez penalty when the referee whistled for a Maicon handball during a set-piece, although it looked like the handball was just outside the box.

Roma then scored two goals when Totti scored from the penalty spot after a foul in the box and then when Gervinho assisted Juan Iturbe with a sublime through ball.

But Juventus got another penalty at the end of the first half when Paul Pogba was brought down at the edge of the box by Miralem Pjanic, though replays showed that he may have dived. Tevez scored his second to level the match at 2-2.

Juventus got all three points when Leonardo Bonucci scored the winner from outside the box in the 86th minute.

Both teams also had a player sent off with Álvaro Morata and Kostas Manolas fighting on the pitch after a challenge.

Totti: We were not beaten by Juventus

Roma captain Francesco Totti could not hide his disbelief at the final result and pointed a finger at the referees for favouring Juventus.

“It’s a huge shame after a good performance,” Totti said.

“We came to Turin to play our game, but you saw what happened and that affected the match.

“For years the same old incidents keep happening. I don’t know if we were beaten by referees, but we certainly were not beaten by Juventus tonight.

‘Juventus should have their own league’

He spoke about how angry the Roma squad was and why Juventus always get calls in their favour.

“Yes, we are angry, but also aware we are a great team and must lift our heads straight away.

“This was a match we really cared about, but Juventus ought to have their own League, as by hook or by crook they always win.

“Are we back to the same doubts? I am not the only one saying this, as these are things everyone in Italy should discuss.

“With Juventus when there is any doubt whatsoever, it’s always a penalty. I have to stop now, as if I keep talking then I’ll get suspended.”
