Gary Neville and Paul Scholes name their top three players in the Premier League

City’s trio ripped Barca to shreds

Manchester United legend Gary Neville picked out the three players who he believes are truly world class in the Premier League at the moment. But United fans will certainly not want to hear that two of them he picked are from the blue side of Manchester.

Gary Neville speaking to BBC's Match of the Day said the quality of the Premier League is no longer like what it used to be and that there is a scarcity of top-quality stars that ply their trade in England.

These are the three players he picked out to be the best of the bunch right now. “On his day, Hazard is one of the top three in the league along with Aguero and Silva.” It’s not surprising he picked out Hazard and Aguero but some might argue that one other Manchester City player should have made his top three.

David Silva is no doubt one of the best playmakers in the league but Kevin De Bruyne is arguably the main man at the Etihad with even Pep Guardiola admitting that he was the best player after Lionel Messi he has worked with.

Neville’s former teammate and now fellow pundit Paul Scholes also picked out the three players who he believed were the cream in September and De Bruyne did make his list.

He said “There needs to be a real step up in quality in England. Other than Sergio Aguero, Kevin De Bruyne and David Silva, we don't have the best players. You never see a Lionel Messi coming over here, you never see a Neymar in the Premier League.”

Scholes has also been very critical of United’s performances in the league ever since Sir Alex Ferguson left the club. The Red Devils have been struggling to consistently finish in the Champions League places while their cross-town rivals have been going from strength to strength.

Pep finally gets one over his old club

Manchester City gave their fans a night to remember after a brilliant home performance against Barcelona. Pep Guardiola was finally able to get a win against his former side at the 4th time of asking after failing twice as Bayern Munich manager and also losing 4-0 at the Camp Nou a couple weeks back.

Barcelona will look back on a night when they created several chances in the first half that they did not take but always looked very vulnerable at the back. City were punished for the mistakes they made at the Camp Nou and the Catalans made the exact same mistakes this time around by overplaying at the back.

City have a firm grip on second place in the group and even have a shot at finishing top if results go their way in the remaining two fixtures.
