Has Jose Mourinho got his game management right?

Jose Mourinho has been criticized for shutting shop rather than scoring more goals

Greame Le Saux, the Ex-Chelsea full back and now pundit for US Television has expressed his opinion that he would like to see Chelsea really go for teams rather than shut up shop. I am wondering how you feel about what he has said.

Speaking recently, Le Saux said: "They've certainly got a huge amount of creativity and, if you look at the freedom the creative players have - whether it's Hazard, Willian, Costa is a fantastic player as well and there are countless others you can name - they are a hugely entertaining team to watch.

“I enjoy watching Chelsea play because they offer a huge amount of flair. If there's any criticism of the team and the way they perform, it's that point in a game where Jose decides he's going to close the game up and they're very good at doing that as well.

“As someone watching it, you think 'you're 2-0 up, go on and get another couple' but he's very good at closing a game up as well.

“Our team were very exciting because you never quite knew what you were going to get! We could be 2-0 up in a game and lose 3-2 like we did against Arsenal and be quite frustrating because we were always trying to score another goal.

“We took teams apart when we played well and scored a lot of goals. We weren't as consistent as Mourinho's teams and weren't able to win the league but we had a phenomenal ability to play good, open and entertaining football."

Chelsea can do better if they up the tempo

I am really interested to hear your opinions on this as there are bound to be plenty of differing views.

I guess the thing to remember here is that the be all and end all is that Chelsea win and take three points or progress through to the next round, dependent on the game we are playing.

However, there are some instances that frustrate me where you can see that if Chelsea upped their tempo and really went for the opposition we could really put them to the sword and score four, five or even six.

Think back to Carlo Ancelotti's double winning season and the amount of times we battered teams. There was no let up and he encouraged the team to keep playing, to keep attacking. I believe three times we scored SEVEN or more!

If anything this team is better and is more than capable. To see scorelines like that again would be fantastic but it would be very difficult.

I guess it comes down to game management here. As we have seen throughout the years, the result is the most important and it's what people are judged on. As Le Saux says when he talks of the Chelsea side he used to play in, it's all well and good being 2-0 up and to continue to attack, but to eventually lose 2-3 due to bad game management isn't good at all!

I don't think anyone would complain at the moment if we are not at our best but keep on winning. It was the case on Saturday against Hull and I would take the same on Monday night at Stoke, another potential banana skin!

So what do you people think? Has Jose Mourinho and his team got their game management spot on or would you like to see them play with more freedom to attack teams for 90 minutes looking for more goals?
