The result moves Manchester city to second spot with 27 points, six points adrift of Chelsea who sit on top with 33 points.

The Saints had very little to offer as City kept on making a plethora of chances.Aguero came close in the 70th minute with only Forster to beat, however the Argentinian surprisingly blazed it over the cross-bar.

Southampton’s best chance arrived in the 74th minute when a yellow-card assured challenge from Mangala just outside the penalty box awarded them a free-kick but all in vain.

Southampton 0-2 Manchester City: Frank Lampard (80’):Frank Lampard made it 2-0 in the 80th minute as the veteran picked out by Milner unleashed a ferocious shot into the right bottom corner of the net.
