Manchester United ended their overseas pre-season tour on a sour note as they lost 2-0 to Paris Saint-Germain in the International Champions Cup at Soldier Field in Chicago on Wednesday night. Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Blaise Matuidi scored for the Ligue 1 champions with both goals coming in the first half.

It was a case of the Red Devils’ defence getting exposed by PSG while they also blew their chances to score at the other end. Matuidi opened the scoring in the 25th minute when Phil Jones failed to spot the French midfielder’s run. The United defence then made a mess of blocking the shot as both Luke Shaw and David De Gea tried to stop Matuidi who poked it in past the advancing Spaniard.

Ibrahimovic then made it 2-0 in the 34th minute when he collected a ball in midfield, made a run forward and passed the ball out wide to Maxwell on the left. The Swedish striker continued with his run into the box and Maxwell timed his pass in behind the United defence to allow Ibrahimovic to score from a tap-in past De Gea from the edge of the six-yard box.

The win moved PSG to the top of Group 1 in the International Champions Cup with 10 points from four games while Manchester United finished third with nine points.
