Iker Casillas has said that in "10 – 15 years" he'll explain why he left Real Madrid – his own club – the way he did at the end of last season. The 34-year-old spent all his youth and senior career with one club Real Madrid but last season, he said, he had no choice but to move.

Speaking to XL Semanal, Casillas said, "I had to decide whether I was going to stay and be the figure of ridicule that others enjoyed poking like a voodoo doll, or leave and be able to breathe again. I chose the second option to live more peacefully."

Casillas also admitted that he often put himself ahead of the club on plenty of situations and that took a huge toll on himself. "If I had looked out for myself more, it would have been a madhouse every day, particularly in the last year," he said.

The Spanish legend also confirmed that there was a lot of tension between himself and former manager, Jose Mourinho. "It was uncomfortable because within the team there was two people whose relationship was deteriorating," he said.

"It's something that happens all the time - it happens to a lot of couples. But that bad relationship made people take sides - it divided people. I only hope that, with time, those ghosts of the past will eventually disappear."

There were plenty of rumours around that stated Iker Casillas and Jose Mourinho were having a tiff but it wasn't admitted or publicly spoken about until now. While Iker Casillas ended his Real Madrid career by switching over to Portuguese giants FC Porto – ironically Jose Mourinho's former club – while the Portuguese manager rejoined English club Chelsea as their manager – and eventually getting sacked from there too.
