Inter Milan Transfer News: Wesley Sneijder staying put at the San Siro

Sneijder looks set to stay put with Inter Milan this season.

Inter Milan midfield maestro Wesley Sneijder has reaffirmed his situation in the ongoing transfer saga, claiming that it’s looking increasingly likely that he will stay put at the San Siro this season. The Dutch playmaker was the subject of numerous speculations linking him with big money moves to Manchester United and City.

The possibility of a move was also heightened by the fact that Inter were looking to cut their wage bills despite them repeatedly persisting on keeping hold of Sneijder. Nevertheless, the midfielder himself has spoken out about his future, with another season in Italian football seeming the likeliest option.

“I’m staying at Inter,” Sneijder told Sender Nos. “I don’t think I’ll leave at this moment in the transfer market. Manchester United? Anything is possible in football, but I don’t think this time something will happen.”

“I know that if I were to leave it would have to be for the right price, Inter was clear about that. But I have not spoken formally with the two Manchester clubs.”

Inter were looking to offload Sneijder in order to raise funds for the transfer of Carlos Tevez from City. However, with Tevez also looking certain to stay at Eastlands, there appears to be no real motive in selling their prized asset. Manchester United first team coach Rene Meulensteen is still optimistic and claims that anything can happen in football.

“Sir Alex Ferguson has tremendous confidence in our current squad, but a player the calibre of Wesley Sneijder could well suit us. Where there is a will, there’s always a way. As club and player really want it, there is always something possible. I do not see why an older player like Sneijder would not fit into our team.”

As we approach deadline day of the transfer window, crazy possibilities still loom large and we could be in for a grand stand finish to this saga.
