Rumour: World Cup sensation James Rodriguez turns down advances from Real Madrid

World Cup star James Rodriguez has offered hope to Manchester United by turning down a move to Real Madrid, reports Mundo Deportivo.

The 22-year-old has, according to Mundo Deportivo, decided to stay put at Monaco rather than moving to Spanish giants Madrid.

Rodriguez had previously stated that he was keen to move to Real Madrid ahead of their legendary rivals Barcelona. Rodriguez’s father has also said that he would like to play for Real, stating that growing up, the Monaco star’s idol was Zinedine Zidane.

Real Madrid remain keen on the Colombian international, however, and are even willing to sell Argentina winger Angel di Maria to acquire him, despite Di Maria being one of their top performers last season. Florentino Perez, the president of the club, and coach Carlo Ancelotti are keen to announce the capture of two new Galacticos during this transfer window, Rodriguez and his club and international teammate Falcao.

Manchester United apparently maintain an interest in Rodriguez, but are more keen on Di Maria. James Rodriguez completed 82% of his passes in Ligue 1 last season.
