Terry signs contract
John Terry has signed a new contract with Chelsea

Chelsea have announced that their captain John Terry has signed a new contract, that will keep him at the club for another year. This will also be his 22nd season with the club. It was generally believed that Terry would be leaving the club at the end of the season after announcing in January that he hasn’t been offered a new deal.

Last week the Blues announced through a spokesperson that Terry has been offered a contract, to which the former England captain replied that he is considering the contract and that it is a different role at the club. The Englishman had also canceled a farewell party that he was planning to throw before being offered the deal.

There was a meeting between the player, the owner, the board and the incoming coach Antonio Conte, where Terry’s future was decided.

Terry was pleased with the signing of the contract and stated, “I am delighted to sign a new contract with the club. Everyone knows I'm Chelsea through and through.

“I am looking forward to next season under the new manager and, hopefully, we can make it a successful one.

“Also, a special mention to the fans for their continued support. You’re the best in the world.”

Terry has made 703 first-team appearances for the blues, which is the 3rd highest in Chelsea’s history, with a club record 0f 570 games as captain. He is also the Premier League’s top scoring defender having surpassed David Unsworth.

Club delighted Terry has signed contract extension

Chelsea Chairman Bruce Buck was quoted saying, “We are delighted John will spend another year at the club. He has been the leader of the Chelsea squad throughout the most successful period in our history. He recently reached the 700-appearance mark, which is testament to his professionalism and dedication as well as his undoubted talent.”

Terry was sent-off the last time he played for the blues, which kept him out of the remaining two games of the season. It was widely believed that the game against Sunderland was his last for Chelsea.

The captain made his debut in 1998 and he has never looked back ever since. He has won every major trophy there is to be won as a player which includes four Premier Leagues, a Champions League, a Europa League, five FA Cups and three League Cups.

The man has also represented the three lions 78 times before retiring in 2012. He was voted the PFA Player of the Year in 2005 and has appeared in the FIFPro World XI five times in a row, which is a remarkable feat.

Director Marina Granovskaia also added, “We look forward to another year with John at the club, and believe he will be an important figure in the dressing room and on the pitch as we look to bring success back to the club next season.”

It remains to be seen what part he will have in the club next season with new head coach Antonio Conte. It is reported that Terry had massive offers from China and Qatar, however, his love for Chelsea was too much and he will stay with the club for another year.
