Struggling English champions Chelsea will travel to the King Power Stadium on Monday to face a high-flying Leicester city team. The Foxes have been producing arguably the most entertaining and exciting brand of football in this season’s English Premier League and Jamie Vardy tops the scoring charts in the League by some distance.
Vardy has scored 14 goals so far this season and recently smashed Manchester United legend Ruud van Nistelrooy's record by scoring in 11 successive matches. He has thrived in Leicester's City counter attacking style, allowing him to attack space, a tactic which might not be as productive at a more established Premier League side expected to take the game to the opposition.
Vardy also won consecutive Player of the Month awards for the month of November and October.
The Englishman has been strongly linked with a host of leading Premier League clubs after his stunning show for Leicester this season.Chelsea are among those linked, and now Mourinho has hinted at a deal for Vardy by saying he could see him playing for a top English club.
He said, “He is top scorer and it is normal big clubs want him.”
“Even at a big club (counter-attack) transitions are important, fast players are important, people to attack space behind defenders are important.”
“Obviously in the big teams sometimes we face very low (defensive) blocks where technical players to play in the box are very much needed. But I think a fast player with objective and being direct can have success everywhere.”
Speaking of the pacey forward the manager insists that record-breaker has shown enough class this season to suggest that he could thrive at one of the major Premier League clubs. The Portuguese manager said, “It is a beautiful story and his record is historic.”
Vardy is rated at £25million and has scored 14 goals this season so far.
Will kick at Vardy if it helps our cause: Ivanovic
Jose Mourinho's side are one of only two sides to beat the Foxes since late March. But that 3-1 victory came towards the end of last season and this time around it wouldn’t be as easy to beat the Foxes at their own den.
Speaking ahead of the game on Monday, Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic has revealed in a press conference that he would be happy to do everything it takes to prevent Jamie Vardy from scoring. When questioned over whether he would kick Leicester's in-form danger man in order to achieve three points, Ivanovic said he was more than willing to bend the rules.
The Serbian said, “If this helps, yes,”
“Some of the strikers don't like when you kick. You kill their confidence.”
“Vardy at the moment is running a lot and is making the space for other players as well. They are confident. I think it will be very hard.”
