Jose Mourinho given 'one last chance' by Roman Abramovich to save his Chelsea job

Jose given ‘final chance’ by Roman Abramovich to save his job at Stamford Bridge

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has given manager Jose Mourinho ‘one last chance’ to save his job at the club after a dismal start to the season, as per the reports on Telegraph. Abramovich, who’s normally quick to act, has decided to give the Portuguese coach enough time to turn things round at Stamford Bridge and is unsure of who to bring in if Mourinho eventually gets sacked for this poor run of form.

The 52-year-old manager is currently in his second spell with the West London club ever since he arrived from Real Madrid in 2013. Since then, Mourinho has so far helped the side win 2 major trophies including the Premier League title last season.

However, this season, the Portuguese tactician is under enormous pressure at the club, sitting 15th in the league table with just 11 points and have already suffered six defeats. The reigning English champions hit a new low when they suffered an embarrassing 3-1 defeat to Liverpool on Saturday at the Bridge.

Although Mourinho was given the backing by the club to turn the club’s fortune around last month, club owner Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich is reluctant to axe the former Real Madrid coach if this poor run of form continues. However, Abramovich remains uncertain about potential replacements if Mourinho eventually gets sacked.

“Roman doesn't know what to do,” said a source close to the billionaire.

“Jose hasn't suddenly become a bad coach, but things can't carry on like they are.”

Carlo Ancelotti has been in London, but he is unlikely to take up the caretaker role at the club. Guus Hiddink is available and has hinted that he would accept a second spell as interim manager but the Dutchman, 68, failed in his last job in charge of the Holland national team.

We are all fighting for the manager: Mikel

Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel believes Mourinho is the right man to lead them out of this trap and has insisted that all the players in the squad are fighting hard to make him at the club.

“You can see that we are playing for the manager,” he said.

“We are right behind the manager. There's no doubt about it. In training we work very hard. If anyone can turn this around, we definitely think he's the one. We are right behind him, our performances show that.”

“Jose has come out a few times and said the players are not giving 100 per cent and then you look at the next few games, the players come out and play better. He is doing everything that needs to be done. He knows this club in and out. He knows what's wrong and it's just a matter of time before results start coming.”

The club are 10 points off the top four and cannot afford to slip much further off the pace. Mourinho and his men have a tricky fixture against Stoke City on Saturday. He cannot afford to lose as he has been given a set number of games to save his job at the Bridge. The club will be expecting an instant improvement in results including their Champions League clash against Dynamo Kiev on Wednesday.
