Barcelona captain, Andres Iniesta, has revealed his disappointment at losing the lead in the dying minutes of the game to a Sergio Ramos header. Barcelona could have won the game and cut the 6 points gap to three, but all of the good work was lost over a set-piece goal from the Real Madrid and Spain captain.
And Iniesta was left with a bad taste in the mouth with the last memory of the game. Things could have yet gone Barca’s way had Casemiro not made a last minute clearance on the line to deny the Catalans their second goal.
"I feel bad at the moment because the most recent thing to happen is the equalising goal," the 32-year-old said after the game ended.
However, the World Cup winning midfielder also admitted that his side deserved to win after they missed out on scoring from two clear chances.
"But besides that moment at the end of the match, I think we did enough to deserve to win."
The man whom Iniesta replaced, Ivan Rakitic, was also equally upset at Sergio Ramos’ equalizing goal, insisting that the Blancos scored from their only chance in the game. The Croat also believed that his side were very close to scoring a second before Real levelled the score.
"We had the game fairly well controlled and had chances to add to the scoreboard," the Croat said.
"We were approaching a second goal and then they, with basically the only chance they had, scored. That is why only taking one point hurts."
The former Sevilla midfielder also opined that the two teams have different playing styles, while also adding that the Blancos sat back a lot more than they usually do—something which the former Schalke midfielder interpreted as a sign of respect.
"We both have different styles," the 28-year-old said. "Real Madrid sat back a lot today, something that they don't do in other matches, which signals the respect they have for us."
As Barcelona conceded in the last minute, it also meant that they have a lot of catching up to do since they are 6 points behind. Even if the Blaugranas win all their games, they will still to rely on Madrid to drop points along the way.
Meanwhile, Madrid are sure to be the league leaders by the time winter break in La Liga arrives and will hope that the case remains the same even after the conclusion of the league.
