Jurgen Klopp wants his side to forget the past and focus on their fixtures to come

Liverpool manager, Jurgen Klopp has come out and said that his team are title contenders and that everyone must forget the history and glory of the club to achieve big things in the future. The Reds look like an exciting prospect this season packing a dangerous attack with a solid but inconsistent backline.

Liverpool haven’t won a single League title since the year 1990 and the club and its fans are hoping to bring an end to the long agonising wait. Rival clubs like Chelsea, Manchester United, Arsenal, and Manchester City all have at least a single League title to their names in the last 26 years.

But the Merseyside club’s new German manager insists that Liverpool’s title challenge this season will not define 26 years of failure to win the League title. Klopp has complete faith in his young squad and feels that they will write their own history.

Klopp said: “I cannot carry the history of Liverpool FC and the players cannot carry the history. Liverpool have not been champions for 26 years but I have only been here for 15 months, so I am trying to win it for the first time because you cannot count last season.

“This is a completely new team, with a new manager in his first full year, so this is only the start of our history,” the German added.

Liverpool came agonisingly close to lifting the title in 2013 under Brendan Rodgers but lost out to Pellegrini’s Manchester City. Klopp insists that what happened in the past doesn’t matter anymore and that past achievement won’t help in finding success this season.

“What happened before doesn’t matter and the fact that City or Chelsea or Leicester have been champions in the last three years doesn’t help them this year.”

“So what happened before doesn’t matter. The fans will remember the game Liverpool lost in 1984 against Stoke or some other team, but I don’t have that knowledge, so I’m not nervous,” he stated.

The German manager believes his team has nothing to lose and that they can win every game they play, Klopp’s only aim is that the club achieves success this season but is unsure of what it could it be at the end of the season.

“My feeling is that we can win everything and have nothing to lose. So let’s go for it. I’m cool in this moment. I only want to be as successful as possible and I have no idea what this could mean at the end of the season,” he concluded.

Jurgen Klopp has twice won the Bundesliga title with his former club Borussia Dortmund but never proclaimed he was a champion until he had the trophy in his hands. The German manager is keen on achieving the same kind of success he had in Germany.
