Louis van Gaal: Spending money can help Manchester United win Premier League next season

Louis van Gaal getting ready to go on a spending spree during the summer

Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal believes that spending big this summer will help the team get back on top, just like Manchester City and Chelsea. The Dutchman had the task of improving the team that had finished seventh last year and has definitely done his job as they are currently in third place.

The 63-year-old spent £152 million last summer to bring in 6 players, but feels the club need to spend more this summer to take United to the next level.

United are looking to sign a few big names this summer instead of young players to improve the squad. Some of the people who are on Van Gaal’s reported list include Paul Pogba, Mats Hummels, Nathaniel Clyne, Memphis Depay, Gareth Bale, and Kevin de Bruyne.

“Want to improve team selection for next season”

"I believe in managers and teams who believe in each other and who are making a team out of it," said the Dutchman in a news conference on Friday. "That is what we call a process and when it's good and every year you improve your selection.”

"So I also want to improve my selection for the next season. Then we can make a bigger step than only the process. It helps you in the process to be number one at the end," he said.

Chelsea and Manchester City are two clubs that have achieved success with similar ideologies, and Van Gaal says he is going to try it now.

"Manchester City has done that also," Van Gaal noted. "We are trying to do that now. Sir Alex Ferguson has done it before. Jose Mourinho is doing it now -- but then last season he doesn't win anything, Mr. Mourinho. Now he is winning the title. Now I try to do that also."
