A Manchester City fan who raised £10,000 for charity has gone ahead and tattooed the Manchester United logo on his leg, after promising to do so. Mark Pinder made the unusual promise to help raise money for his sick son and received help from the entire Manchester community, with everyone putting their differences aside to support a noble cause.

The City Supporter has a 12-year-old son Kirk, who is currently confined to a wheelchair since he is suffering from a condition called Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. The condition is an incurable one and causes his body to deteriorate which means he cannot raise his arms and will need steel rods inserted into his spine to keep it straight.

Pinder felt helpless about his son’s situation and wanted to do something to help him and other sufferers of the condition. After reaching the target, Pinder donated all the money he received to the Duchenne Now Charity, and is incredibly happy with what he’s done.

“When he was diagnosed I buried my head in the sand for a couple of years, but I thought it was about time I did something.” he said, according to The Independent.

He added: “I’m buzzing now I’ve done it.”

The 38-year-old received a free tattoo courtesy ST Ink due to the cause being a good one, and he now has a Manchester United badge on his leg to go with a Manchester City badge that was already tattooed on his arm. He seemed delighted about the whole experience, and spoke about it further.

“I’m quite happy with the tattoo now because it’s a good memory to remind me of all the money I raised. Although I thought it would be a big thing before I’m not bothered about it now.” said Pinder.

“I’m so proud to have made £10,000 and I’ve loved the whole fundraising experience. It’s been crazy to see how the community rallied together and it was humbling for people who don’t know me to take an interest and donate to the cause.

“It’s been fantastic and the support I have had off people has been brilliant. The whole process has also helped raise awareness and inform people about the condition which is what I set out to do.” he added.

Manchester City have also helped raise money for the charity by selling former welterweight boxing champion Ricky Hatton’s book, as well as his signed boxing gloves.

Despite the Manchester Derby being the biggest rivalry in Manchester and one of the fiecest rivalries in world football, City fan Pinder has shown that the city can still unite together for an important cause.
