Manchester City have been dealt with another HUGE injury blow, as David Silva suffered an ankle ligament injury during Spain's clash with Luxembourg. This news just adds to the injury woes of ‘Citizens’, as Aguero was also stretchered off during Argentina’s World Cup qualifier match against Ecuador, a day before.
The Manchester City star was brought down by Lars Krogh Gerson in the early stages of the match, and immediately signalled for the physio, before limping off. Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata was introduced to replace Silva. The official website of Spain’s national football team reported that Silva has strained the internal ligament on his right ankle and will miss their Euro 2016 qualifier match against Ukraine.
The statement read, “David Silva will miss the following match due to a sprained internal ligament on his right ankle after today's match. The RFEF's medical services have gotten in touch with the services at Manchester City, who have received the relevant reports and the test carried out on the player.”
Spain won the match 4-0 against Luxembourg, riding on braces from Santi Cazorla and Paco Alcacer. This win has secured Spain’s place in Euro 2016.
David Silva is expected to be out for two to three weeks. This means that he might not be able to take part in the Manchester derby on October 25. The Spaniard has been in sublime form this season. He has scored a goal and has provided six assists so far in the Premier League.
Sergio Aguero also confirmed on Friday that he will be out for a month, making it certain that the star striker won’t be able to play against Manchester United, a team he loves scoring against. He will also miss two back to back Champions League fixtures against Europa League 2014-15 winners Sevilla.
With Manchester derby at Old Trafford just round the corner, Citizens can only hope that David Silva recovers soon enough to have some say in the clash against the local rivals.
