After a thrilling start to the season that saw Manchester United lift the Community in addition to winning their first three Premier League games, their winning spree has come to a grinding halt. A mishap in the Manchester derby was followed on Thursday by a loss in the Europa League to Dutch side Feyenoord and that has left a number of fans scratching their heads.

The Manchester United faithful are hungry as ever to taste silverware this season after three lowly seasons under Louis van Gaal and David Moyes. And with the huge outlay of money provided to new manager Jose Mourinho in the transfer market, the pressures of delivering immediate success will be high on him. Another man who will be under huge amounts of pressure is Paul Pogba. United shelled out £89 million to bring the Frenchman back to the club this summer.

The Frenchman got off to a bright start after making his debut against Southampton, but in the last two games, his slump in form has coincided with the misfortunes of the Red Devils. Former club legend Paul Scholes, however, feels that all his woes are not totally down to individual performance and it’s too early to start judging him.

The former Manchester United midfielder thinks that he needs more help alongside to get the best out of the Frenchman and he feels, Manchester United might have to dive into the transfer market once again to find such a player. "He needs a controlling midfield player next to him,” said Scholes.

“Pogba had Pirlo at Juventus. They (Manchester United) probably need to go into the transfer market for somebody like that. Michael (Carrick) is capable of it. But they still need that controlling midfielder, who can control where Paul goes and can control a game of football.

"I know he's (Mourinho) happy with the four players he’s bought but they still need that type of player. A Luka Modric or a Toni Kroos. I think these players are available. I think Paul Pogba would be a much better player playing with these types of players."

The former Manchester United midfielder, however, still has faith in the team and opined that he still expects Mourinho’s men to cruise into the next round of the competition.

“It was almost like a pre-season game – it turned out to be that way,” said the Old Trafford Legend.

“Did Feyenoord deserve to win the game? I’m not sure.

“They scored a good goal but there’s wasn’t much in the game really. I don’t think it’s as big problem. United will cruise through this group anyway with these three teams.”

Anthony Martia’s effort which went wide in the first half was the visitor’s only real chance in the first forty-five minutes.Mourinho’s men looked sloppy and even Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s introduction in the second half failed to turn around their fortunes.

Manchester United will look to quickly bounce back from their misfortunes this weekend as they go on the hunt for another three points; this time to Watford.
