Manchester United to terminate Victor Valdes contract but would block Liverpool move

Valdes made only two league appearances for United after signing for the club in 2014

Manchester United are considering letting go of Spanish goalkeeper Victor Valdes but only if he joins a club outside the Premier League, Mirror reports. The 20-time English champions are ready to release Valdes provided he does not join their fiercest rivals Liverpool and move abroad.

The 33-year-old goalkeeper joined the Red Devils in 2014 on an 18-month deal in January after leaving Barcelona. But ever since his arrival, he has slid down the pecking order with David De Gea, Sergio Romero and Sam Johnstone all ahead of him in manager Louis van Gaal’s plans.

The former Barcelona player and the club have been wanting a solution to the current situation and the Red Devils are now open to cancelling his contract. On the other hand, Liverpool have been looking to sign a new goalkeeper and according to several sources, the Merseyside club are keeping a close tab on Valdes.

Liverpool could make a summer move for the Spanish goalkeeper with Chelsea also reportedly interested in signing him.

Louis van Gaal humiliated Valdes

The relationship between the player and the manager had fallen out during the pre-season when Valdes reportedly refused to play in a reserve game. Much to the goalkeeper’s misery, his move to Turkey’s Besiktas collapsed and it forced him to remain at the Manchester club.

He was then further humiliated by being strictly told not to come into the Carrington training complex along with the first team. With these indications, it is safe to say that the Spain international’s career at Old Trafford is more or less over and the club are now preparing to cancel his contract.

However, his desire to force a move to Merseyside may not be possible as several players in the past have had their moves blocked down the years, including Gabriel Heinze, who tried to force a move to Anfield back in 2007. Liverpool’s Phil Chisnall was the last player to make a switch from one club to another which was 43 years ago.

Valdes snubbed for team photo

Although Valdes may have earned a legendary status at Camp Nou, his spell at Old Trafford hasn’t been so pleasing and he is yet to receive the love and respect from the club. However, Valdes was dealt another snub at the club after being omitted from the club’s official team photograph, Daily Star reports.

The Red Devils has released their team photo for the new season on Tuesday which was taken on the pitch at Old Trafford. The 33-year-old goalkeeper is nowhere to be seen on the snap. Instead, youngster Sam Johnstone along with David De Gea and Sergio Romero are all seen in the middle of the photo.

Things couldn’t get any worse for the veteran goalkeeper who will now be looking to move away from the Manchester club.
