Wayne Rooney to miss Liverpool clash

Wayne Rooney is a doubt for Manchester United’s clash against archrivals Liverpool today (Sunday) after suffering a head injury in training.

Rooney collided with team-mate Phil Jones during practice, and it is believed that the striker left United’s Carrington training base in stitches. The England international could also miss World Cup qualifiers against Moldova and Ukraine this week.

Prior to the training session, United boss David Moyes praised Rooney and highlighted the striker as a key figure in the high-voltage match against Brendan Rodgers’ side.

“I felt he played very well the other night [against Chelsea] and he’s looking in good condition and is mentally in good shape too. We’ll do everything we possibly can to keep that going and need him to keep performing well. At the moment, he’s in good shape.”
