Manchester United have confirmed that young midfielder Tom Cleverley, who picked up an injury during Saturday’s 5-0 rout of Bolton Wanderers, has been ruled out of action for four weeks. A loan returnee from Wigan Athletic, Cleverley has impressed heavily this season, playing a crucial role in United’s fluid attacking play, thus making the big leap from a loan returnee to first team player. When he was subject to a harsh tackle from Kevin Davies and limped out of the match, it was feared that Cleverley had sustained a season threatening injury. The player wrote on his Facebook page that he too feared that his season could be over, adding that Davies had not apologized for the bad tackle.

However, such fears have been put to rest by the club when it was confirmed by manager Sir Alex Ferguson to the official website that Cleverley had not broken a bone, instead suffered ligament damage to his foot. While a month long absence for Cleverley is still a big blow for the club, the fact that there is no fracture will be looked at as a welcome relief to United fans who waited with bated breath on the injury update and feared the worst for the player who has impressed the most so far of the United’s young brigade.
