Governing body of Indian football, All India Football Federation (AIFF) has deleted the name of Kolkata club Mohun Bagan from this season’s I-League. It has been reported that Federation officials are making the new schedule of the remaining I-League matches without Mohun Bagan. As a result, it is almost confirmed that although Mohun Bagan made an appeal for lowering their punishment, the Mariners will not get a chance to take further part in this season’s I-League. Now the question rises as to whether Mohun Bagan will be able to take part in the next two seasons’ I-League or not .
Meanwhile, AIFF have postponed their meeting of the core committee, which is supposed to be held on January 9. The meeting will be held on January 15th instead. AIFF president Praful Patel will take the decision on whether the Federation should consider Mohun Bagan’s appeal or not. As a result, Mohun Bagan fans, players and officials will have to wait another week to learn the fate of their beloved club.
Rumours spread that after receiving a letter from Mohun Bagan officials stating that they made a mistake on December 9 by withdrawing their team, some of the Federation officials want to give them a chance by reducing the punishment they have already got. But some officials want to stick with the two year ban. According to them, when they did not think while withdrawing the team from the field, then they have to pay the price.
According to the latest report, if the Federation considers Mohun Bagan’s appeal, the club might have to pay approximately Rs. 10-12 lacs to escape the two year ban.
