Mourinho believes he'll still remain at Stamford Bridge even if Chelsea finish mid-table

Jose Mourinho is currently in his second spell with Chelsea Football Club.

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has stated that he will still be in charge of the Blues even if they fail to secure a top-four finish at the end of the season, as per the reports on ESPN. Mourinho believes he has got the backing of club owner Roman Abramovich and has insisted that he will not be sacked even if the club finish mid-table.

The West London club is set to host Aston Villa on Saturday and they will be hoping to move up the table with a win. Chelsea are now sitting 16th in the league after suffering four defeats in their opening eight games.

The former Real Madrid manager has been the man under pressure at Stamford Bridge and he’s partly to be blamed for the club’s disastrous start in this new campaign. Despite their poor run of form, Mourinho has been given the full support from the club as he is believed to be the man to change it all around.

In recent seasons, Chelsea have dispensed with numerous managers, often when Champions League qualification is in doubt. However, Mourinho has insisted that he will not be sacked even if Chelsea fail to finish in the top-four this season.

"Yes, It's different for many reasons. Since the moment I came back in 2013, when I had my first conversation with the owner and the board in 2013." he said.

The Blues are trailing the league leaders Manchester City by ten points. As we have seen in the past, the competition in the Premier League means Chelsea could miss out on top four this term.

"Somebody will be out (of the top four). Do I think it's Chelsea? No," Mourinho said.

I never thought about being sacked: Mourinho

The Portuguese tactician had met Abramovich immediately after the post-match interview on the night when his side lost to Southampton. Before a board meeting he had been reassured there was no immediate threat to his position.

The club further demonstrated their commitment to him by issuing a 57-word statement proclaiming their support 48 hours later, with senior players having since offered public backing.

"For me the important thing is the owner and the board's message to myself," Mourinho said.

"Before the statement came out, I was having the feedback from the owner and the board. So the statement was not something new for me.”

"I met the owner before dinner so, when I went to dinner, I knew. But even before that, I knew what brought me here. I know the conversation we had two years ago. I know what made me sign a new contract, and the reasons why the owner and the board decided to give me a new contract.”

"They didn't have to. I had still two more years, so they didn't have to give me a new contract. After a bad result -- which is not the first bad result of the season, it's one more bad result -- obviously I was not happy, far from it. But I never thought about [being sacked]."
